Riverside Schools literacy specialist Margo Shipp, left, and intervention specialist Ellie Johnson were featured speakers on a five-member panel Thursday, March 23, at the Ohio Excels’ “Literacy Matters: Shaping the Future for Ohio Students” event at the Athletic Club of Columbus. Participants included Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Ohio Interim State Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Siddens, various state representatives, and educators from around Ohio. Johnson and Shipp shared the story of Riverside’s journey in recent years to learn and implement, “The Science of Reading” methodology for reading instruction that has led to student success and Ohio Department of Education awards for the district.
