Greydon W. Sam Hone, 89, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 10:11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at the Brookdale of Muirfield. He was born in Newark, OH on January 22, 1934, to the late George and Maria Trisabel (Beaty) Hone.
On July 16, 1961, he married Lela Orahood, and she survives. He is also survived by three children: Donna (Paul) Savage, Greg (Heather) Hone, and George Hone; seven grandchildren: Brandon (Betsy) Savage, Jonathan (James) Cutlip-Savage, Kelsey (Isaiah) Snipes, Shonda Lane, Jessica Bergum, Caitlyn (Matthew) Tackett, and Kenna Hone; two sisters: Barbara Beaudry and Laura (Robert) Lucas; seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his dog, Sophie. Two sisters, Carol Shreve and Martha Kay Hone preceded him in death.
Greydon served in the United States Army where he specialized as a vehicle mechanic. He then went on to work for Rockwell Manufacturing Corporation. He proceeded to take over his grandfather’s rug cleaning business, Modern Rug Cleaners. Finally, he worked for HBD as a set-up operator for 40 years. He was a member of High Point Eagles #2166 of Bellefontaine, where he became a Golden Eagle. He was also a member of the High Point Motorcycle Club and the High Point Seesaw Western Square Dance Club.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. The burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty.
