Caiden Nicol still has one season remaining in his Indian Lake basketball career. But he has already put together a masterful body of work.

Nicol on Wednesday punctuated a sensational junior season by being named to the Division III all-Ohio third team by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

The junior guard led the Lakers in both scoring in rebounding. His 19.8 points per game ranked second in the Central Buckeye Conference. He led the league in rebounding with 10 per game.

Nicol also averaged 6.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

He scored in double figures in 22 of the 24 games he played in. Nicol exploded for 40 points in a game against North Union on Feb. 10.

Nicol also scored 36 twice, against Anna on Dec. 3 and vs. Creston Norwayne on Jan. 28.

He recorded double-digit rebound totals 16 times, with a high of 14 coming in a game vs. Northwestern on Jan. 27.

He eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career during a tournament game and is on pace to become the program’s all-time leading scorer next season.

Nicol helped the Lakers to the CBC Mad River division co-championship.

Tigers’ Logwood earns honorable mention honor

West Liberty-Salem’s Taran Logwood continues to establish his presence on the local basketball scene.

Just a sophomore, Logwood was named to the Division III all-Ohio honorable mention list.

A forward, Logwood led the Ohio Heritage Conference in rebounding with 11 per game. He ranked eighth in the league in scoring at 13.4 points per contest.

He scored in double figures in 18 of his team’s 24 games, with a high of 28 in a contest vs. Indian Lake.

Logwood had 16 games with double-digit rebound totals. His high was 18, which he did twice, against Northeastern on Dec. 16 and against Anna on Jan. 21.

The Division III player of the year was Dailyn Swain of Columbus Africentric. The coach of the year honor went to Travis Wise of South Point.
