279

From young stars of Ohio’s jazz scene to veteran musicians with decades of songs and stories to share, the Holland Theatre stage will be alive with exciting music this spring.

The season kicks off with Columbus Jazz Quartet in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25.

With Logan County’s own Isaac Bednarki on percussion, these talented Central Ohio musicians bring the exciting sounds of classic and modern jazz to the Holland.

The quartet also includes talented Central Ohio musicians Derek DiCenzo (bass), Sydney McSweeney (vocals) and Lucas Holmes (piano), performing all styles of jazz, including bebop, blues, Latin, ballads, and more.

Next up is slide guitar wizard Sonny Landreth with Cindy Cashdollar on the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1.

Landreth and Cashdollar are making some rare duo appearances in 2022 and 2023, culminating in a showcase of guitar virtuosity. The two great instrumental masters perform a mix of original songs and contemporary and traditional blues and roots music. The Suitcase Junket opens.

Then on Friday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m., audiences can enjoy five decades of music and memories from Tom Rush, accompanied by Matt Nakoa. Credited by Rolling Stone Magazine with having ushered in the era of the singer-songwriter, Rush helped launch the careers of Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and many more.

Tom Rush

A profoundly influential voice in the American music scene, he helped shape the folk revival in the 1960s, the folk-rock movement of the 1970s, and then the renaissance of the 1980s and ’90s.

Nakoa, a multi-instrumentalist and modern troubador, accompanies and will perform some solo songs throughout the show.

Finally, hear “Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin Together Onstage” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.

Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin

Cohn, a Grammy winner for his soulful ballad “Walking in Memphis,” and Colvin, winner of the Grammy Award’s Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Sunny Came Home,” welcome fans into their decades-long friendship for a night of songs and stories.
