Steven V. Lines, 42, of Ashley, Ohio, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an injury crash about 8:20 a.m. Sunday, March 12.

He was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a westbound 2007 GMC Safari on State Route 47 near Township Road 33 when he traveled off the right side of the road and continued westbound in the ditch.

His van struck a utility pole and a culvert and crossed both lanes of travel of S.R. 47, continuing off the left side of the road. The vehicle then overturned, coming to a rest on the driver’s side.

Fire and EMS personnel on the scene had to extricate Lines from the vehicle, removing the roof from the van. Damage was heavy to the vehicle, which was towed from the scene.

Deputies said the defendant was argumentative with first responders on the scene. He was transported to the hospital, and deputies observed an “overwhelming odor of alcohol” while speaking to him inside his room at the emergency department. Lines admitted to drinking two or three beers several hours before the crash. He refused to submit to a chemical urine test and also was cited for failure to control.
