Jane Ellen Hiett, 78, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Jane was born in Lima, Ohio on November 17, 1944, to the late Harold and Marie (Worrell) Ewing. On August 11, 1968, she married James Hay Hiett, and he preceded her in death. Jane is survived by her daughter, Jami Hiett of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and her son, Jason (Katherine) Hiett of Loveland, Ohio; three granddaughters: Sarah, Laura, and Madalinne Hiett. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Ewing.
Jane cherished her early life living on the farm. She won numerous awards showing Guernsey dairy cows at the Allen County Fair. Jane moved to Bellefontaine, Ohio in 1968 following marriage. Prior to having children, Jane taught for the Bellefontaine City Schools after attending Ohio Northern University. Mrs. Hiett worked for 30 years in the composing room at the Bellefontaine Examiner editing and proofreading newspaper articles.
Jane was a member of the Mt. Zion Church in Harrod, Ohio. She later attended The First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Jane was especially proud of her three grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, watching them play sports, and listening about their academic success.
Later in Jane’s life she established a loving relationship with Wayne Denney of Maryland. They loved traveling around the world, attending Ohio State University sporting events, and spending time with great friends.
Jane made many beloved friends throughout her life. She was instantly liked by everyone she encountered. This is a testimony of her fun-loving warm personality and strong character. She was a great friend, mother, and grandmother that will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street in Bellefontaine, where Pastor Joe Ziraldo will lead a memorial service at 11 a.m. The memorial service will be live streamed on the Eichholtz Daring and Sanford Facebook page (will go live at 10:55 a.m.). Burial will take place at a later date in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Harrod, Ohio.
