When Amy Fulmer was wrapping up her high school swim days at Bellefontaine several years ago, BHS head coach Sharon Lewis said she felt that as good as Fulmer was in high school, her best swimming was ahead of her at Ohio State.
Fulmer has certainly made good on those words as a Buckeye.
Coming into this season, Fulmer had already earned a combined six All-American honors in the 100 freestyle and in three relay events. She received all-Big 10 honors both in 2020 and 2021.
Her current season has added to her awards collection.
At last weekend’s Big 10 meet on the campus of the University of Michigan, Fulmer helped the Buckeyes’ women’s swim and dive team to its fourth straight conference championship.
In the process, Fulmer smashed numerous records.
She won the Big 10 title in the 100 freestyle in a time of 47.02, which set a new Ohio State and Canham Natatorium record.
Fulmer was part of three Big 10 winning relay teams. She won the 400 medley relay with a pool-record time of 3:26.68, won the 200 freestyle relay in a pool, conference meet and OSU record time of 1:26.70 and won the 400 freestyle relay in a pool and school record time of 3:10.12.
Fulmer added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in an Ohio State school-record time of 1:43.45.
Fulmer and the Buckeyes will compete in the CSCAA National Invitational March 9-11 and will then travel to the NCAA Championships March 15-18 in Knoxville, Tenn.
