Bellefontaine City Schools student Kylie Eaton, center, and her family were honored Friday evening, Feb. 10, during halftime of the Bellefontaine vs. London basketball game at Bellefontaine High School during a “Yellow Out” T-shirt fundraiser. Through the support of many generous individuals and local businesses, a check for $4,660 was presented to Kylie’s family to assist with her medical expenses. Also, announcer Montanna Buck said Friday evening that an additional $500 was raised that evening to support Kylie’s medical expenses. Fans of the Chiefs’ opponents, London, contributed to the cause as well. In June of 2019, Kylie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor called medulloblastoma. She underwent surgery at that time, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. After missing her entire fifth-grade year of school, she started sixth-grade at Bellefontaine Middle School in the fall of 2020. Her family said they received the unfortunate news in May of 2022 that the cancer had returned, and two tumors were removed from her back in two separate surgeries. After those surgeries, Kylie was required to complete additional radiation and chemotherapy, and now will undergo scans every two months. (EXAMINER PHOTO | TONY BARRETT)
