Calvary girls capture OVCC title

Calvary Christian’s girls basketball team rolled past Dominion Academy 42-41 to clinch the Ohio Valley Christian Conference championship.

The Spartans are now 11-2 overall and 11-0 in the OVCC.

“These girls played a special game and even though we were down by seven points early, the girls never gave up on each other,” said Calvary coach Lee Reinhard. “They earned the champion title.”

Calvary faced a seven-point deficit in the second quarter, but battled back to tie the score 29-29 at the end of the third period.

Dominion regained the lead and led by four points with 3:30 remaining in the game.

Hannah Marlow and Abigail Reinhard hit some clutch free throws to get the Spartans back within a possession. Reinhard drove to the basket and scored the winning layup.

KayLee Hurley scored nine points and had nine rebounds and Kari Gantz had nine points to lead the Spartans.

Also for Calvary in the win, Marlow had eight points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots, Reinhard tallied eight points, 10 rebounds and four steals and Madhuri Cook added four points.
