Amber D. Heilman, 36, of Jeffersonville, was charged with a felony count of possession of methamphetamine related to a traffic stop about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol in West Liberty observed a vehicle with no functional headlights and initiated the stop.

While speaking with the driver, Heilman, deputies observed that she appeared very nervous and asked her to step out of the vehicle. K9 Thor also was deployed on the vehicle for an exterior sniff and the canine alerted on the vehicle.

During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located a cloth bag with a marijuana pipe and a container with a burnt marijuana joint and a small amount of a green leafy substance.

Also in a pouch inside Heilman’s jacket, deputies seized a baggie with a crystal-like substance, along with a baggie, a rolled-up dollar bill and a glass pipe with suspected meth residue.

The defendant was placed under arrest and was transported to the Logan County Jail. At the jail, deputies said the seized items field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

A passenger in the vehicle also was released from the scene after gathering his belongings. The vehicle was towed since it did not have operational headlights.

Officers of the West Liberty Police Department also assisted at the scene.
