Forced to play from behind from the start, West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team was unable to catch a talented Greenon squad on Monday.
The visiting Knights raced to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter and held on the rest of the way to record a 49-38 victory in an Ohio Heritage Conference contest.
The Tigers drop to 12-8 overall and 10-4 in the OHC. Greenon improves to 17-4, 13-3.
Greenon held an eight-point cushion (27-19) at halftime. The Tigers were able to cut that lead to six (37-31) after three quarters.
However, Greenon closed the game on a 12-7 run to lock up the win.
Ava Astorino led the Tigers with 10 points. Lilly Weaver scored nine points, Bailey Poppe had seven and Chaley Wade and Megan Hollar added six apiece.
Abby West and Allie Hundley tallied 14 points apiece to lead the Knights.
There was no reserve game.
The Tigers are back on the court Thursday at Mechanicsburg.
