Riverside’s boys basketball grabbed a much-needed victory Saturday, fighting off visiting Houston 62-55 in overtime in a non-league game.
The win stopped a five-game losing skid for the Pirates, who are now 6-11 on the season. Houston falls to 2-15.
Warren Shockey powered the Pirates with a game-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Myles Platfoot had 17 points and two steals and Ayden Clary chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
Riverside led 17-15 after one quarter. Houston moved in front 29-25 at halftime and the Wildcats held a 41-39 lead after three quarters.
Riverside was able to get the score knotted a 49-49 at the end of regulation to force overtime.
In the extra period, the Pirates outscored the visitors 13-6 to secure the win.
Riverside’s junior varsity team won 52-38. Gavin Robison led the Pirates with 11 points, Reese Jenkins had eight points, five rebounds and five assists and Damien Smith added five points, five assists and five rebounds.
Riverside is back in action Tuesday at home against Miami East.
