Vehicle strikes gas station during snowy conditions

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a number of weather-related, non-injury crashes this week:

• Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle striking the Midway Marathon gas station about 7:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26.

Ty C. Born, 21, of Lewistown, reportedly was operating a northbound 1999 Pontiac Sunfire when he attempted to negotiate a right turn into the gas station parking lot, 8758 Township Road 239, Lakeview. His vehicle lost traction in the snow about began to slide, striking the corner of the business.

Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene. The building sustained cosmetic damage and the owner was notified, deputies said.

Born was cited for failure to control.

• Deputies responded to a report of a disabled semi tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 33 during icy road conditions Friday, Jan. 27.

Sergio Martinez, 40, of San Diego, Calif., was operating a northbound semi about 1:20 a.m. near Township Road 89 in Stokes Township when he lost control on the ice and drove off the right side of the road.

Damage was moderate to the semi, which was towed from the scene. No citations were issued and the driver was wearing his seat belt.

• Derrick C. Ping, 19, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to control following a crash about 5:25 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies report he was operating a northbound 2015 Nissan Altima on State Route 508 near County Road 63 when he drove off the left side of the roadway on a curve, striking a row of mailboxes and a utility pole.

Damage was light to the car and the driver was wearing his seat belt.

• Scott A. Kearns, 53, of Urbana, was cited for failure to control after a crash at county roads 144 and 153 Wednesday morning.

He reportedly was operating a southbound 2017 Chevrolet Silverado on C.R. 153 about 6:30 a.m. and attempted to make a left turn onto C.R. 144. His vehicle went off the southeast side of the intersection and struck a fence. Damage was light to the pickup and the driver was wearing his seat belt.

Criminal damaging arrest reported

Noah M. Fought, 25, of 11105 Chickasaw Path, Lakeview, was charged with criminal damaging after an incident Thursday afternoon.

Deputies were dispatched about 3:15 p.m. to his address on a report of a possible domestic dispute. His ex-girlfriend reported that during an argument, Fought struck the front passenger door of her vehicle, resulting in a dent to the door.

Fought also reportedly admitted to punching the vehicle. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
