On Wednesday, January 4, 2023, Joan Myers, devoted wife, and mother of 3 children, passed away at the age of 84 at Carolina Gardens Assisted Living in York, SC.

Joan was born on January 3, 1939, in Sunbury, Ohio, to Benjamin Swam and Betty (Roush) Swam. She graduated as valedictorian from LaRue High School in 1957 and married Asa Myers on September 7, 1957. She served our country and family as the wife of a Navy member for nearly 20 years. During this time, they raised two sons, Michael, and Douglas, and one daughter Diana.

When they retired from the Navy in 1974, they opened the Western Auto Associate store in Bellefontaine, OH, where she worked with Asa for several years. Later Joan worked as an LPN at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. She cherished her time working in the obstetrics department. Joan and Asa relocated to the Carolinas to be closer to their children. Joan was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, most recently at St. Paul Methodist Church. Joan was a member of T.O.P.S clubs for many years. Until recently, she and her husband Asa frequented the Senior Center in Clover.

Joan was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin, her mother, Betty, brother Wilber Lee Swam, and son Douglas. She is survived by her husband Asa, sister Wanda (Swam) Barnhart, son Michael, daughter Diana, 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, January 21, at St. Paul United Methodist Church located 1550 State Rd S-46-151, Clover, SC 29710, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Joan’s name to Dementia Society of America (www.dementiasociety.org).
