Traffic stop nets drug charges

Driver Chad Johnson, 49, and and his passenger, Michelle Lundy, 51, both of Piqua, each were charged with possession of drugs and possession of drug abuse instruments during a traffic stop Thursday, Jan. 12.

Officers of the Washington Township Police Department were on patrol about 3:40 p.m. on State Route 708 near State Route 366. Officers observed a vehicle make a stop sign violation and initiated a traffic stop

Upon making contact with the driver, officers learned that he did not have a valid driver’s license. The front seat passenger, Lundy, was found to have an active warrant for her arrest. Officers also learned that Johnson had an active civil protection order against Lundy.

When asked, Johnson stated Lundy had illegal drugs in her purse in the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted and methamphetamine was located inside of her purse and hypodermic needles were also located inside of the vehicle. A glass pipe used to consume methamphetamine was located on Johnson’s person.

Both defendants were taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail. Johnson also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Lundy was also charged with violating a civil protection order.

OVI charges filed

Jason Gauntt, 42, of Russells Point, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident Thursday evening.

Officers were dispatched about 9:45 p.m. to 8916 Cresent Street, Lakeview, in reference to a burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, officers met with the caller and was advised that two males were outside of his home banging on his doors and windows. One of the males, Gauntt, was still on scene. Officers observed a vehicle backed into a fence and Gauntt admitted to driving the vehicle to the residence.

The caller, stated he did not want to pursue charges and that he just wanted the Gauntt and the other juvenile male trespassed from his property.

Officers observed signs of intoxication while speaking with the defendant. He reportedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening and consented to field sobriety tests. Gauntt was subsequently was taken into custody for OVI.

He was transported to the Logan County Jail and submitted to a breath test. He tested 0.136 BAC. He was released to a sober driver.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Russells Point Police Department assisted at the scene.
