The Logan County Art League hosts the sixth year of its popular fundraiser — Not So Bad Art By Good People — that features works of art created by local celebrities and encourages the community to pick their favorite pieces.

The 2023 contest features a line up of nine celebrity artists competing to receive the most votes from the public. Their works of art are currently on display through Jan. 27 at Citizens Federal Savings & Loan, 100 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, during the bank lobby hours.

Voting is available for $1 each, with no limits on the numbers of votes that a person can cast.

The celebration continues with a public auction at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Bellefontaine VFW, 216 Orchard Ave.

This year’s artists are: Elaine Ann Fagan Moore, The Depot; Justin Cluck, pastor of Bellefontaine First Family; Tammy Allison of Mary Rutan Health; Paige Dukowitz, art educator at Indian Lake High School; Erin Miller, principal, Indian Lake Middle School; Pam Fischer, Fisch Designs at The Depot; Christina Tillman, Holland Theatre; Cindy Plank, Nest 1896; and Ben Vollrath, Logan County Chamber of Commerce.

Here’s a look at Fagan Moore’s reflections on her piece:

I have been enjoying the beautiful Indian Lake since the early 80’s for which my Aunt and Uncle Richard Fagan had a home on Cherokee Drive near the State Park Camp Ground.

I’m pleased to call Logan County, Lakeview, Ohio, my permanent residence since April 2020, where I reside at Woodland Park Estates with my four Mainecoon kitties.

I retired in January 2022 after a 45-year career in the insurance industry. I now have the pleasure of working part-time at The Depot/Indian Lake Outfitters in Lakeview.

I have met so many wonderful people while working at the store. Many of our customers have inspired me to keep a journal of all the magnificent stories shared and why they have the same love for the lake.

I have a passion for photography and boating, to include the overall enjoyment of the beautiful landscape and wildlife on Indian Lake. I’m a member of the Indian Lake Photography Group that has 3.8K members. The Facebook page allows the members to post photos and share stories. Be sure and check it out.

My project for the Not So Bad Art By Good People contest was inspired by an evening out on my boat, Irish Therapy II. I had just left Acheson’s Resort after a quick sandwich and enjoying an evening of karaoke by the locals which takes place on Wednesdays during the boating season. I was heading back to my slip for the evening, snapping off photos. The sunset, Oct. 5, was radiant as portrayed on my canvas print.

Another Depot customer, Sharon Roberts, had shared her love of making Native American headbands from a collection of feathers from the beaches at the lake. I have incorporated a handmade headband, made from leather, beads, twine and feathers as a representation of our Native American culture. The lake has a rich history of Native Americans.

The sunset was so powerful in this picture. Though there is not a facial image connected to the headband, the sun was fiery enough to serve as the face and blessing over the lake that evening. I added a few of my favorite winged creatures, butterflies and a dragonfly as they are often seen on our beautiful lake all summer.

I hope you enjoy this piece and are inspired to see the beauty of this amazing magical water playground, fondly known as Indian Lake.

I would like to thank Brenda Moots Holder and Brian Holder from The Depot/Indian Lake Outfitters of Lakeview for the nomination and their support. It is truly an honor to be a participant in this project through the Logan County Art League.
