Donald W. Spath, 85, of Huntsville, OH passed away Friday afternoon, December 30, 2022, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.

Don was born on August 16, 1937, in Alger, OH, a son of the late Russell D. and Dessie M. Pardue Spath. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Gerald.

On January 14, 1956, Don married Barbara J. Glett at the McGuffey Church of Christ and she survives along with their two sons, Scott (Julie) Spath of Huber Heights, OH and Steve (Kay) Spath of Huntsville, five grandchildren, Shawn (Regan) Spath, Ryan Spath, Brittni (Nick) Ewry, James (Melissa) Sparks, and Heather (Bobby) Dryer, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, a brother, Ronald (Myrna) Spath of Mansfield, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

Don was a 1955 graduate of McGuffey School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Don started Fire Safety Services in 1962 and retired in 2002. He was extremely active in his community. He was a member of Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles Collins American Legion Post 381 in Huntsville, Indian Lake Watershed Project, Indian Lake Development Corporation, and Indian Lake Soil and Water Conservation. He was a former member of Logan County Sheriff’s Department Auxiliary, Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department, MidAm Bank Board of Directors, and served as Clerk/ Treasurer for the Village of Lakeview and 12 years with the Logan County Health Board of Directors.

Don had many interests in life, mostly revolving around mechanical operations including fire trucks, antique cars and tractors, antique clocks, riding motorcycles, including racing as he and Don Ebright brought motorcycle ice racing to Indian Lake, and motorcycle trail riding. He also enjoyed more relaxing activities as fishing, camping, and traveling with Barb. Don’s greatest joy came from being with his family especially his time with his grandchildren.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be Thursday, February 23, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Fire Safety Services, 6228 Township Road 95, Huntsville, with military and fireman honors at 4 p.m.
