Driver claimed in crash identified
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — One person is dead and two others were injured after a two-vehicle crash about 11:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, on State Route 560 N. at Church Road in Concord Township.
Garrett A. McGinnis, 20, of Urbana, was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office report McGinnis was operating a southbound 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck on S.R. 560 near the intersection with Church Road when it collided head-on with a northbound 2005 GMC pickup truck.
After impact, the vehicles traveled off the east side of the road and came to rest in a field.
The GMC overturned onto its side trapping the occupants, who had to be mechanically extricated by emergency personnel.
The GMC’s driver, Wade Cook, 21, and a passenger in the truck, Bryce Zumwalt, 21, both of Urbana, each was transported by CareFlight helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.
Deputies were assisted by St. Paris Fire and EMS, West Liberty Fire and EMS, Rosewood Fire and EMS, Macochee Joint Ambulance District, the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Multi-County Joint Crash Investigation Team.
The crash remains under investigation.
