For a Jonathan Alder program that has been near the top of the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division standings on a regular basis since joining the league in 2017, seeing the Pioneers with a 4-4 overall record and a 1-2 mark in conference play is out of the norm.

But Bellefontaine head coach Jason Brown, whose Chieftains will host Alder on Friday in a CBC Kenton Trail division matchup, says the Pioneers can’t be taken
lightly based on their record.

“They are a better team than their record indicates,” said Brown. “They’ve had a couple of games where a play here or there cost them, but they are a very good
football team.”

The Pioneers entered Kenton Trail play with a 4-1 record, but following a 21-7 win over Urbana in Week 6, they have been dealt a 49-0 loss by London and a 28-27 defeat against Kenton Ridge.

Senior Grant Horne is in his second year as the Pioneers’ starting quarterback and has played very well. He is 53-of-91 through the air for 624 yards and 10 touchdowns with five interceptions, while rushing for 715 yards and four TDs on 94 carries.
