2 taken into custody as a result of shooting incident, no injuries reported

Officers of the Washington Township Police Department report two defendants have been taken into custody following a firearm complaint received early Monday morning, Aug. 14, in the 8900 block of Crescent Street, Lakeview.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Defendant Owen Wyne, 17, of Russells Point, was placed under arrest following officers’ investigation. He was transported to the Central Ohio Youth Center and lodged on a probation violation.

Officers report Owen faces potential charges of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a habitation and tampering with evidence charges, which officers are filing with the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office.

A second suspect, Donivon Smith, 19, of Bellefontaine, was taken into custody on a probation violation after being located in the area. Charges have been forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for his involvement in the shooting as well, officers said.

About 1:20 a.m., officers were dispatched to the residence on Crescent Street. Upon arrival, officers reportedly located several bullet holes on the exterior of the residence that protruded into the interior of the home.

At the time of the shots being fired into the residence, two occupants were inside of the home. The occupants of the home sustained no injuries, officers related.

Investigations lead officers to a residence in Russells Point. Upon attempting contact with the Owen, he reportedly ran from the residence. A short foot pursuit was initiated.

During the foot pursuit, officers reportedly observed Owen throw a handgun into Indian Lake. He was then apprehended.

The second suspect, Smith, was taken into custody as well after being located in the area.

The Indian Joint Fire District Dive Team assisted at the scene and were able to locate the firearm in Indian Lake.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
