SPRINGFIELD — Troopers of the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal Saturday night, April 12, crash that claimed two lives and injured two others.
Robert Thomas, 20, of Urbana, and Megan Branam 26, of Springfield, were each pronounced dead at the scene, troopers report.
A third occupant traveling in the vehicle with Thomas and Branum sustained serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they reportedly collided head-on about 10:54 p.m. in the 800 block of E. County Line Road just north of Springfield, according to a preliminary crash report.
The driver of a second vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken by squad to Springfield Regional Medical Center.
Troopers were assisted by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Urbana Township EMS, Moorefield Township EMS, and Dan’s Towing and Recovery.
Crash investigation continues to determine if excessive speed or impaired driving were contributing factors.
The roadway was closed for about four hours.
