It’s fair week in Logan County, and the crowds were out to experience the fun on Sunday, July 7. As people wandered the grounds on East Lake Avenue, Bellefontaine, drinking lemon shakeups and munching on walking tacos, the opening ceremony got things going in front of the show arena.
As the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard raised and saluted the flag, Indian Lake High School student Daniel Wahl sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Then Rick Thomas, fair board president, addressed the attendees.
“Our youth are learning life skills such as responsibility, commitment, dedication and teamwork,” he said. “It’s the food, the lights, the rides, the games and the exhibits. It’s the memories and the relationships, both new and old.”
The ceremony concluded with a prayer from Logan County Commissioner Joe Antram. He asked that each person would show sportsmanship, confidence and lovingkindness throughout the week.
He continued, “Help us to seek Your guidance and a better understanding of Your Word, and to appreciate the unbelievable and awesome gifts of nature, life and human interaction that You alone provide.”
Next year, the fair board is looking forward to its 175th anniversary. With that in mind, Thomas said they are hoping for community involvement in “creating a celebration worthy of 175 years.”
