Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Wednesday evening, Nov. 8, at U.S. Route 33 and State Route 235 in Lakeview.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle Edwin C. Steinmetz, 55, of Huntsville, was reported dead in the 7:19 p.m. crash, deputies said. EMS on the scene said he had suffered a medical emergency, resulting in the crash.

He was transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital.

Deputies report Steinmetz was operating a southbound 2017 Ford Fusion on S.R. 235 and appeared to be free rolling through the intersection of U.S. 33.

His vehicle went off the southeast side of the intersection and struck a tree.

Damage was moderate to the vehicle, which was towed from the scene. Steinmetz was wearing his seat belt, deputies said.

This is the sixth fatal crash in Logan County this year.

• Deputies also responded to an injury crash about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 33 and County Road 57.

Kelly A. Pauff, 61, of Lima, was transported by Huntsville EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in the crash.

Kasaundra M. Collins, 22, of Kenton, was operating a northbound 2008 Honda Fit on C.R. 57 and attempted to cross U.S. 33. She crossed the eastbound lanes and then struck a westbound 2020 Toyota RAV4 operated by Pauff.

The impact sent Pauff’s vehicle off the right side of the road, striking a fence.

Damage was heavy to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Pauff was cited for failure to yield.
