A 1.5-mill permanent improvement levy was again renewed by voters in the West Liberty-Salem school district.
The five-year initiative generates $155,000 for maintenance and repair of school property; acquisition of school busses; purchasing equipment including computers and technology, instruction material, textbooks and school furnishings.
The levy was originally passed in 1969. It costs taxpayers about $46 per year.
Funds generated are not used towards employee salaries or benefits, nor are funds earmarked for ongoing efforts to construct a Tiger Strong fieldhouse on the WL-S campus.
“We are very thankful for the continued support of our community,” WL-S Superintendent Kraig Hissong said.
“(The levy) has been a very good way for the district to support capital improvements that help to provide the resources necessary to provide our students with a safe and productive learning environment.
Also for the West Liberty-Salem School District, Paul Adams and Ryan Cole won seats on the board of education, with 683 votes and 802 votes, respectively, from both Champaign and Logan Counties.
Ridgemont Local School District’s renewal 0.75 percent income tax operating levy also passed with 387 votes for the levy, and 251 against, in Logan and Hardin counties, according to unofficial results. The issue is estimated to generate $493,626 per year for operating expenses of the district.
