Vernal E. (Gene) Huffman, 86, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2019 at his residence.
Vernal was born on Jan. 1, 1933 in Sidney to the late Fredrick C. and Edith M. (Forsyth) Huffman. He is one of eleven children. On March 28 of 1958 in Bellefontaine he married the late Helen Maxine Corwin.
He is survived by three sons, Gregory Huffman Sr, Mark Huffman and Kevin Huffman all of Bellefontaine; two daughters, Kristi Boggs of Russells Point and Kimberly Elliott of Bellefontaine; one granddaughter, Brandi Zerkle who was raised by Gene and Helen; numerous other grandchildren whom he helped raise, as well; multiple great- grandchildren; and his caregiver for the past five years, Pam Eagon.
Gene served in the U.S. Military. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In previous years he was known for spending his time with his beloved wife at Wal-Mart at the snack bar or sitting on the front porch taking in the view of the neighborhood where he lived the majority of his life.
Pastor Ken Neighoff will officiate a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at noon at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be conducted from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Cemetery following the service. The family requests for everyone to wear casual attire.
