West Liberty-Salem’s boys soccer team got the postseason off to a good start Tuesday with an 8-1 win over visiting Emmanuel Christian in Division III tournament play.
The fifth-seeded Tigers (14-2-1) now host seventh-seeded Dayton Christian (8-10-3) on Saturday in a sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. The Warriors were last year’s state runner-up in Division III.
On Tuesday, WL-Salem jumped out to a 4-1 lead over Emmanuel Christian at halftime and went on to score four more goals in the second half to wrap up the win.
Lance Baldwin led the Tigers’ offense with two goals and two assists. Ethan Cole and Owen Johnson had two goals apiece, while Gavin Harrison and Mason Powell both had one goal and one assist. Isaac Reames and D.J. Yoder each provided an assist.
Defensively for the Tigers, Logan Saylor and Logan Campbell shared the goal keeping duties with Campbell recording the save.
Lakers fall to Red Devils
Indian Lake’s boys soccer team found itself outmatched against state-ranked Tippecanoe on Tuesday in a Division II tournament opener.
The top-seeded Red Devils, who are ranked second in the final state poll, rolled past the 12th-seeded Lakers 7-0.
Indian Lake finishes its season with a 2-14 record, while Tippecanoe improves to 16-0-1. The Red Devils host 13th-seeded Trotwood Madison on Saturday for a sectional semifinal.
