West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team dominated the third quarter to pull away for a 47-30 win over visiting Springfield Catholic Central on Thursday in an Ohio Heritage Conference matchup.
The win moves the Tigers to 12-1 overall and 10-0 in OHC play, while the Irish slide to 10-4, 7-2.
WL-Salem took a 14-7 lead after the opening quarter. Catholic Central fought back to go ahead midway through the second period, but the Tigers were able to grab the lead back late in the quarter for a 22-17 advantage at halftime.
The Tigers continued to create some breathing room in the third quarter, outscoring SCC 16-5 to open up a 16-point cushion (38-22).
Selena Weaver fueled the Tigers with 20 points. Emily Hollar had 11 points with four assists and Grace Estes added seven points.
In two quarters of junior varsity action, WL-Salem downed SCC 15-8. Hallie Smith led the Tigers with four points.
WL-Salem travels to Fairbanks on Saturday for its next OHC contest.
