Three area football players earned all-Ohio honors when the Division VI and Division VII teams were released Sunday night.
Riverside juniors Kale Long and Ethan Burrows were named special mention in Division VII, while Triad senior Logan McCoy was a special mention pick in Division VI.
“It’s a great honor for these guys and our program,” said Riverside head coach Bryce Hodge. “It’s a testament to the hard work they’ve put in since their freshman year and the growth they’ve made each season. Not only are they great players, they’re great young men and great students, and represent our school the right way.”
Long was selected to the special mention list as a quarterback. A 5-11, 195-pound signal caller, he threw for 1,059 yards with nine touchdowns. He also had 1,455 rushing yards with 17 touchdowns. He is the first player in program history to throw and rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Burrows was named to the special mention list as an offensive lineman. He helped the Riverside offense rush for over 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns this fall.
“Obviously, both guys are talented, but the reason they’ve earned these postseason awards is because they’re some of the hardest workers in our program,” said Hodge. “They never miss an offseason workout. From December through July, they give great effort every practice and perform well on Friday nights as a result of their hard work.
“They’re both leaders on our team and were voted team captains as juniors. I can’t wait to see them continue to be leaders in our program and have an even better senior year. I think the best is yet to come for both guys.”
McCoy was a bright spot for Triad’s offense this fall. The 6-3, 195-pound senior wide receiver recorded 757 receiving yards and seven touchdowns with a 17.6 per catch average. He led the Ohio Heritage Conference in receiving yards.
The Division IV and V all-state teams will be released today.
