Martha A. Springs, 76, of Columbus, formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1939, in Urbancrest, to the late Daniel V. and Addie Stewart Purnell.
On Aug. 2, 1958, she married Elbert Jackson Springs Sr. in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death Jan. 23, 2000. She also was preceded by stepfather, William C. Brown; and stepbrothers, John, Harrison and Clayton Brown.
Surviving are her children, Sharon Springs, Deanna Springs, Melissa Springs-Thomassey, Jackson (Marilyn) Springs, Bruce (Sandra) Springs and Daniel (Tricia) Springs; grandchildren, Kyle Springs, Kellen Springs, Ian Springs, Khalil Springs, Anthony Thomassey, Kiersten Thomassey, Mason Springs, Mya Springs and Moses Springs; great-grandchild, Norah Springs; her siblings, Ellen Kinchen, Daniel (Karen) Purnell and Gerald Purnell; her aunt, Martha S. Lash; and several nieces and nephews.
Martha worked at DAB retiring in 2000 as a system analyst. She was a member of the Auburn Avenue Baptist Church and Hi-Point Elks, and she enjoyed reading and traveling.
The Rev. Dr. Settle W. Townsend Jr. will officiate a funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Auburn Avenue Baptist Church, where visitation is two hours prior. Burial follows in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.
