Indian Lake’s girls basketball team showed its grit Saturday as it stopped Graham from late comeback to secure a 46-40 Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division win.
The Lakers move to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the CBC Mad River division, while the Falcons slide to 1-11, 1-4.
Indian Lake took the momentum early and led 15-4 after the opening quarter. The Lakers edged the Falcons 11-10 in the second quarter to carry a 26-15 lead into halftime.
The Lakers stayed ahead in the third quarter with a 14-10 run, which gave them a 40-25 lead. The Falcons came storming back in the fourth quarter, though.
Graham went on a 7-0 run to start the final period and eventually cut Indian Lake’s lead to a 41-40 score with 2:30 left to play in the game. The Lakers were able to get four stops on their last four defensive possessions, while the offense went on a 5-0 run to lock up the win.
Kristen Young powered Indian Lake’s offense with 13 points, Kayli Barlow tallied 12 points with five steals and Kaylee Shelton added eight points.
The Lakers also won the junior varsity game 34-18. Cheyenne Hill led the winners with eight points, while Meadow McCullough and Stephanie Altstaetter each had seven points.
Indian Lake travels to Jackson Center today for a non-league game.
