Indian Lake’s girls basketball team put up a good battle for a half Wednesday, but host Springfield Shawnee pulled away over the final two periods for a 44-33 win.
The Lakers are now 2-1. The Braves improve their record to 2-3.
Shawnee held an 8-4 lead to end the opening period. Indian Lake outscored the Braves 12-9 in the second quarter to get within a point (17-16) at halftime.
The Braves regained the momentum in the third quarter to stretch their lead to seven at 33-26. They outscored the Lakers 11-7 in the fourth quarter to lock up the win.
Kristen Young led Indian Lake with 12 points, Kyleigh Huffer had six points and Bethany Golliday chipped in five points.
In a two-quarter junior varsity game, Indian Lake dropped Shawnee 31-4. Kaitlyn Bobgerg piled up 15 points and Meadow McCullough had seven points.
Indian Lake travels to Sidney on Monday for a non-league contest.
