Benjamin Logan product Nicole Fawcett was selected to the 14-player roster for the U.S. National Women’s Volleyball team entering this week’s NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament in Lincoln, Neb.
Fawcett was one of two opposite side hitters picked for the team by head coach Karch Kiraly and his staff.
“We’ve had a strong training block so far, with all 21 players here working very hard to make USA the strongest it can be going into the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier,” Kiraly said in a press release. “We chose the travel roster in the hope of maximizing our chances to accomplish our goal of qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, and we’re excited to begin the battle Thursday against Canada.”
The tournament starts Thursday and concludes Saturday. Team USA opens against Canada on Thursday. It will also play Puerto Rico on Friday and the Dominican Republic on Saturday (9 p.m.) in a match that will be televised live on NBC Sports Network.
The U.S. squad is currently ranked number one in the world and is the reigning world champion.
