Suspected marijuana and a loaded gun were recovered Friday from a vehicle being driven by an unlicensed teenage driver in Russells Point.
Oluwatompie J. Markanhuola, 18, of Columbus, was stopped traffic violations including speeding and improper display of a license plate about 11:40 p.m. Friday by officers of the Russells Point Police Department in the area of eastbound U.S. Route 33 near Clermont Avenue.
Neither the driver, nor a passenger, James E. Birtcher, III, 18, also of Columbus, had a valid operator’s license.
Markanhuola admitted there was marijuana and a loaded, nine millimeter handgun in the center console.
The passenger admitted to having “accidentally” brought the gun with him.
A search of the 2010 Honda Accord turned up the firearm with three rounds in the magazine, and two baggies of suspected marijuana.
Birtcher was arrested and lodged in Logan County Jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, and for improperly transporting a firearm in a motor vehicle.
The driver was issued traffic citations for driving under suspension, speeding and improper license plate. He was transported to the Logan County Jail to await a valid driver.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
