Driver succumbs to injuries in rollover crash

A rural Bellefontaine man reportedly succumbed to his injuries sustained in a one-vehicle rollover crash Tuesday evening, June 20.

Casey S. Barney, 52, of Bellefontaine, was initially transported by Indian Lake EMS to Wilson Health and then was transferred to the Miami Valley Hospital, for treatment of serious injuries after he was ejected from the vehicle.
While deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were informed that he was in stable but critical condition as of 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, Barney was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday at the Dayton area hospital.
In the crash at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, deputies report Barney was operating a northbound 2005 Saturn Vue on State Route 235 near County Road 35.
He initially went off the east side of the road, and then came back onto the road, losing control and leaving the road to the west of S.R. 235. His vehicle then overturned multiple times before landing back on its wheels.
Barney reportedly was not wearing his seat belt. Deputies also indicated that alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
Damage was heavy to the sport utility vehicle, which was towed from the scene.
This is the second fatal crash of the year in Logan County, and the second fatal crash reported this month.
