Triad’s boys basketball team made a valiant second-half comeback attempt, but it wasn’t enough as visiting West Jefferson held on for a 59-55 Ohio Heritage Conference victory.
The Cardinals slide to 1-10 on the season and 0-8 in the OHC North division, while the Roughriders move to 6-4, 5-3.
West Jefferson led 26-18 entering halftime.
The Cardinals were one point better (16-15) in the third quarter to make it a seven-point game at 41-34.
Triad continued to rally in the fourth quarter with a 21-18 run, but the Cards fell four points short.
Ayden Spriggs led the Cardinals with 18 points, Dillon Nott tallied 16 points and Batai Lease chipped in seven points.
In junior varsity action, Triad defeated West Jefferson 53-40. Derek Bails led the Cardinals with 13 points and four assists.
The freshman game saw West Jeff edge Triad 44-41. Tyler Perry paced the Cardinals with 17 points and Cam Hess had 12 points.
Triad travels to Springfield Catholic Central on Friday for its next OHC contest.
