Bernice Louise Petty Roby, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, 2019, at her home.
She was born in Lewistown on Feb. 14, 1928, to the late Willard and Dora (Mattox) Shafer. Bernice married William F. Petty on July 15, 1944, in Springfield and he preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1990. She later married James Alvin Roby on Oct. 27, 2001, in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2012. Bernice was also preceded in death by her son Fred L. Petty; five brothers, Robert, Vernon, Harold, Eugene, and Willard Shafer, Jr.; and seven sisters, Mary Coonfare, Edna Roth, Edith Foreman, Wilma Beard, Annabelle Fridley, Lola Stevenson, and Evelyn Ransbottom.
Bernice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Culp of Bellefontaine; daughter-in-law Vicki Dinovo of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren: Kimberly (Joe) Kirby, Tamara (Edward) VonStein, Kevin (Betsy) Culp, and Greg (Susan) Culp; 10 great-grandchildren, Johnathen Kirby, Emily Kirby, Jacob VonStein, Alex VonStein, Olivia, Wil, and Benjamin Culp, Allison, Ryan, and Matthew Culp; a sister-in-law, Ladema Van Gundy of Wapakoneta; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bernice was a member of Bellefontaine First Church of God. She enjoyed listening to gospel music — especially the Gaithers, working on word searches, and watching RFD television shows. Bernice loved the time she spent with her family. She loved her savior Jesus, and lived her life in a way that caused everyone to want to have that same peace in their life.
Pastors Rob Starnes and Gary Brown will officiate the funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine.
Visitation is Friday, Nov. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Plum Cemetery, Lewistown.
