BCS Board of Education Meeting
Bellefontaine City Schools Board of Education members extended a 2 1/2 year contract to a new treasurer and chief financial officer at their Monday evening meeting, concluding the treasurer search that has taken place during the last several months.
Northwestern Local Schools Assistant Treasurer Wasson’s new treasurer/chief financial officer contract will begin Jan. 1, replacing BCS treasurer Keith Krieger, who retires Dec. 31 following more than 40 years of service to the district.
Wasson attended the meeting with his wife, Kristen, an Urbana City Schools teacher, and their two children, Zeke, 12, and Thad, 9.
“I am very pleased and honored to have been selected as the district’s next treasurer/CFO. I want to thank the Board of Education and Superintendent Hall for the trust they have placed in me,” he said.
“Bellefontaine City School District appeals to me due to the exciting and innovative climate that is very apparent here and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. I look forward to serving the board of education, students and parents of the Bellefontaine City School District.”
“We are confident that we found our next treasurer/CFO and fiscal manager in Joshua Wasson. Josh is a knowledgeable and motivated individual who understands how finances relates to a school system. We believe he will merge seamlessly to continue to meet and exceed the high expectations of his new role and our school system.”
She also thanked Chris Mohr and Becky Jenkins from K-12 Consulting for their services in providing qualified candidates for the position.
Wasson has served in his current role for 4 1/2 years, and previously handled payroll and personnel at Northwestern Local Schools for one year, as previously reported in an Examiner article announcing his selection as the new BCS treasurer/CFO.
A licensed school treasurer and business manager, Wasson received a bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from Muskingum University, and his Master’s In Business Administration from Bowling Green State University.
Also during the meeting, staff member Brady Hiatt presented to the board during the committee of the whole regarding starting a girls wrestling program in the district. He said several girls are interested in the sport, and his plan is to make it a club sport rather than a school-sponsored sport to start.
He will evaluate the club’s performance during a three-year period to determine whether is might be a good fit for a school-sponsored sport.
Approximately 150 schools would have to offer the sport for it to be sanctioned by the Ohio High School Athletic Association, he said.
The girls wrestling club will be permitted to use the school’s mats and facilities, but will not use the Bellefontaine City Schools’ name, officials said.
In other action, the board:
• approved a change in resignation date for Tara Gastineau, family and consumer sciences, to Nov. 15, and also a change in her supplemental contract resignation as Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, effective Nov. 15;
• extended a supplemental contract to April Jameson, FCCLA adviser;
• accepted the resignation of Shauntee Slonecker, cook, effective Oct. 25; and
• approved the following volunteer coaches: Jim Sanford, girls basketball; Andrea Simon, cheerleading; and Daniel Weikart, girls bowling, with member Brenda Sanford abstaining.
The next regular rescheduled meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18.
