A local jewelry shop commemorates 40 years in business this year.
Allison’s Custom Jewelry, 104 East Mason Road, Sidney, began as a hobby for Jon and Libby Allison in 1969.
The two ran the business out of a shop in their garage for its first six years.
Through hard work and dedication, the Allisons opened a store in Sidney in 1975.
Since then, the business has been turned over to a second generation — to Duane (Red), Dean and Dana Allison.
In addition, the store has three full-time Gemological Institute of America-trained employees on staff to help select the right diamonds and ensure customers get the very best appraising services.
The Allisons’ Sidney shop is housed in a 105 year-old rebuilt barn with an addition referred to as a diamond mine.
The walls are lined with sparkling quartz crystals which represent diamonds and the stream in the mine depicts one of the ways diamonds can be mined.
Within the rebuilt barn, customers can find more than 20 display cases of jewelry.
The shop specializes in quality GIA certified diamonds, colored gemstones, 14- and 10-karat, platinum and sterling silver jewelry.
Allison’s Custom Jewelry offers repairs, appraisals, custom design and casting, gem cutting and polishing, free cleaning and inspection, free gift wrapping, free layaway and unique gifts.
The shop also has a large inventory of remounts, loose colored gemstones and GIA certi- fied diamonds.
Each month Allison’s Custom Jewelry also offers 15 percent off of birthstones and gives a 15 percent discount to all brides and grooms gifts for their wedding parties.
The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
