WESTERVILLE, Ohio (AP) — The county coroner says a natural heart-related issue killed a central Ohio high school basketball player who collapsed after practice last week.
Dr. Jan Gorniak, the Franklin County coroner, issued the opinion on the death of 17-year-old Christopher Randolph. He fell to his knees after a Westerville South team practice Dec. 11 and died later at a hospital.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/JH1lbz ) reports that Gorniak did not elaborate on the cause of the death and plans to study it further.
Varsity coach Ed Calo said nothing on Randolph's team medical forms indicated a problem. He'd had gone through practices and camps all year.
The school's athletic office is taking donations to help his family.
