CLEVELAND (AP) — New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi will help the Browns kick off their 2013 NFL season.
The band, fronted by lead singer and die-hard New York Giants fan Jon Bovi, will headline a concert at FirstEnergy Stadium on July 14.
The Browns are hoping the concert can serve as a platform for future major events at the 70,000-seat downtown facility. On Wednesday night, the stadium is hosting an international soccer match between the U.S. national men's team and Belgium.
Browns CEO Joe Banner said the hope is the concert will attract big-name acts "and more and bigger" events in Cleveland, but "we need to lay a foundation first."
Banner joked that he didn't need permission from the Giants for Jon Bon Jovi to play, but "we did have to get him to promise not to wear their jersey."
