Arrah Sandy, an eighth-grade student at West Liberty-Salem, has recently been selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase South in South Carolina.
The showcase takes place Aug. 30-31 at Winthrop University. This event is part of the Queen of Diamonds Showcase series, which are the largest fastpitch softball showcases of their kind in the country.
Players from 21 states and two Canadian provinces will take part in the showcase. In order to be selected, athletes must go through an application process. Players are selected based on criteria ranging from ability, potential, academics, coaches’ requests and referrals.
Sandy plays second base. She plays summer travel ball for the Miami Valley Xpress White 14U squad.
In addition to the showcase event, Sandy has also been selected to play with the North American Select Team at the Cup 2016. Sandy’s team will travel to the Netherlands in January, 2016, to play softball in Rotterdam for three days. After three days of play, the squad will get to spend three days in Paris.
Sandy is accepting donations to help fund her trip to the Netherlands. Donations can be sent to: Arrah Sandy Europe Trip, care of Honda Federal Credit Union, 17655 Echo Drive, Marysville, OH 43040. The cost of her trip is $7,400. Any money collected above her travel fees will be donated to the Kingscreek fastpitch softball recreation teams.
