Raiders’ Collins throws no-hitter, drives in 9 against Hillclimbers

Zane Collins enjoyed the type of game that very few experience in his team’s win over Urbana on Tuesday.

Collins, a junior baseball player for Benjamin Logan, threw a five-inning no-hitter and went 5-5 at the plate with nine RBI as the visiting Raiders ripped the Hillclimbers 19-1 in a Central Buckeye Conference game.

The Raiders are now 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the CBC. Urbana falls to 5-11, 3-7.

A hard-throwing lefty, Collins struck out nine and walked one.

Offensively, he belted a pair of doubles to go with three singles.

“Zane had a day that every player who picks up a baseball dreams of,” said Ben Logan  head coach Jim Fawcett. “His teammates worked at-bats to get on in front of him and give him the opportunity to drive them in and Zane did not miss his pitch.

“Zane had complete confidence at the plate and on the mound he had command of all of his pitches and threw them for strikes. As a team this year pitching-wise, we have focused on pounding the zone and being efficient, and Zane’s outing was a great example of that. He kept Urbana off-balance and none of their batters ever looked comfortable at the plate.”
