SIDNEY — It was pick your poison for Triad head girls basketball coach Jason Malone on Wednesday.

Facing a major size disadvantage inside, the Cardinals chose to sacrifice some of their perimeter defense in an effort to shadow Russia’s post standouts.
That plan was foiled by a hot-shooting night from the Raiders, who found ways to score both inside and outside in a 71-44 victory over the Cardinals in a Division IV sectional semifinal at Sidney High School.
“My fear coming in was that they were going to pound the ball inside against us,” said Malone. “We can only do so much with our size. They have three girls in the six-foot range and we don’t have any. We wanted to make them beat us from the outside, and unfortunately they did. They hit shots from everywhere.”
