BHS, Indian Lake off to solid starts at sectional wrestling tourney

Wrestling

Bellefontaine’s wrestling team had nearly a flawless performance on the first day of action Friday at the Division II sectional tournament at Tippecanoe High School.

The Chieftains are currently in fourth in the Tippecanoe 2 sectional, while Benjamin Logan is in fifth place. Both squads advanced six wrestlers to the championship semifinal round.

Wrestling resumes today with the semifinals at 9:30 a.m. The finals are expected to begin around 3 p.m.

“We won almost every match we were supposed to,” said BHS head coach Rick Reed. “We also picked up two wins over seeded kids when we weren’t favored to win.

“We want to advance as many of those six semifinalists to the championship finals. Then we want to get as many of our kids as we can to the district meet. I think we should get at least six kids out, or as many as eight or nine.”
