Mathias, a star 6-5 guard who has signed to play at Purdue, willed his Elida team to a 55-52 win over the host Chiefs in a non-league boys basketball game.

Elida’s all-time leading scorer, Mathias piled up 31 points as the Bulldogs slipped ahead in the fourth quarter to spoil a sterling Chieftain effort.

“That is a very good Elida team and Mathias is one of the best players I’ve ever coached against,” said Bellefontaine head coach Henry Stolly. “We never want to shy away from playing teams like that. This game is a good way for us to prepare for the rest of our season and the tournament.”
