PLAIN CITY — Bellefontaine sorely need a win to get its confidence back after an overtime loss to Tecumseh on Friday. A gritty defensive effort allowed the Chiefs to do that here Saturday afternoon.

Bellefontaine (11-7) outscored the host Pioneers 12-4 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 40-34 victory in a boys non-league basketball game.
“We talked before the game that we’ve been able to bounce back all season,” said Bellefontaine head coach Henry Stolly. “The kids did a tremendous job bouncing back today on short rest. We had a lot of players step up and contribute.”
It was a tight game throughout, with the Pioneers in front for a majority of the afternoon. They led the entire first half, with Bellefontaine using a late burst before halftime to climb within a point at 17-16.
