Lakers wallop Pirates in local girls hoops matchup

IndianLake Lakers

Indian Lake’s girls basketball team wore down visiting Riverside for a 66-33 non-league victory Monday in a meeting of local squads.

The Lakers improve their record to 6-11, while the Pirates fall to 6-11.

“I thought the girls came out and did a really nice job,” said Indian Lake head coach Tim McMahon. “With all of the weather problems and not being able to practice much, I wasn’t sure what to expect. We shot the ball well and our defense was pretty good as well.”

Indian Lake held a 16-11 lead after the opening quarter and pulled away in the second quarter with a 19-9 run. That burst gave the Lakers a 35-20 advantage at halftime.

The Lakers blew the game open with a 21-7 run to grab a 56-27 lead.

Indian Lake sealed the win in the fourth quarter by outscoring Riverside 10-6.

Sydney Miller sparked the Lakers with 18 points and Allison Knief had 13 points.

“Sydney shot the ball really well,” said McMahon. “She made four of her five three-point shots.

“Allison also stepped up and gave us a nice spark.”

For the Pirates, Brooke Hickey tallied 15 points.

In junior varsity action, Indian Lake won 60-25. Michelle Grider led the Lakers with 14 points.

Indian Lake hosts Graham on Thursday.
