Balanced Tigers run past Cardinals

West Liberty-Salem’s boys basketball team used a second-quarter scoring surge to come up with a 73-63 win over host Triad on Friday in Ohio Heritage Conference play.

The Tigers break a four-game losing streak to improve to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the OHC. The Cardinals slide to 3-4, 2-3.

The teams finished the first quarter tied 16-16, but WL-Salem used a 20-9 run in the second quarter to take a 36-25 halftime lead.

Triad bounced back in the third quarter with a 19-16 effort, but still trailed WL-Salem 52-44.

The Tigers clipped the Cardinals in the fourth quarter 21-20 to hold on for the win.
