Bellefontaine played toe-to-toe with Anna for three of the four quarters Monday, but it was not enough to take down the defending Division III state champs.
Anna, which has won state championships in two of the last three years, rode the strength of a big second quarter to down the host Chiefs 62-53 in a non-league girls basketball game.
Bellefontaine drops to 4-6, while Anna improves to 4-4. “We continue to struggle with putting a full game together,” said Bellefontaine head coach Brian Hogan. “We have only played one game in which we put a complete 32 minutes together. We have played a couple of good quarters against some good teams, but that is not good enough to beat quality opponents.”
The score was tied 11-11 early in the second period, but Anna closed the first half on a 19-4 run to lead 30-15 at half- time.
“We lost our focus in the second quarter,” said Hogan. “They attacked a little more than they had in the first quarter and we had some defensive break- downs.”
