The Tigers postponed their first few regular-season games because of the deep postseason run by the football team.
Despite that delay, WL-Salem found success in its first game. The Tigers survived a fourth-quarter score from visiting Riverside to earn a 44-40 non-league victory.
“We had a pretty good start,” said WL-Salem head coach Darrin Leichty, who was making his head coaching debut for the Tigers. “The energy was great out there tonight.
“Over the summer we talked about finishing quarters and finishing games. I thought we did that tonight. The kids stepped up and hit their free throws.”
